India reiterates support for peace and two-state solution

In a significant diplomatic breakthrough, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has unanimously adopted a resolution enforcing an immediate ceasefire between Israeli forces and Palestinian factions in Gaza. The ceasefire comes after weeks of intense violence that resulted in the loss of hundreds of lives and widespread destruction across the region.
The resolution, brokered with the help of Egypt and the United States, demands a complete cessation of hostilities, protection of civilians, and the establishment of humanitarian corridors to deliver urgent aid to affected populations. It also calls for the resumption of direct negotiations aimed at achieving a lasting political settlement.

The ceasefire agreement was met with cautious optimism across the international community. Humanitarian agencies welcomed the move, urging all parties to ensure unimpeded access to food, medicine, and emergency supplies.
India, a non-permanent member of the UNSC, played an active role in supporting the resolution and emphasized the importance of dialogue over violence. In a statement delivered at the Security Council session, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN said, “India welcomes the ceasefire as a vital first step toward de-escalation. We urge all stakeholders to honor this commitment and return to the negotiating table to seek a durable and peaceful resolution.”
India also reiterated its long-standing position in favor of a two-state solution, advocating for the establishment of a sovereign, independent, and viable Palestinian state living side by side with Israel in peace and security. The Indian government underscored that a comprehensive political solution, grounded in international law and based on mutual recognition, is essential for long-term stability in the region.
The situation in West Asia holds particular strategic importance for India due to its close ties with countries in the region, energy security needs, and the safety of over 8 million Indian nationals living and working in Gulf nations. As tensions flared, India had called for restraint from both sides and appealed for the protection of civilian lives.
Analysts view the UNSC resolution as a critical opportunity to reset diplomatic efforts in a region plagued by decades of conflict. However, the sustainability of the ceasefire remains uncertain, with previous truces having collapsed amid mutual mistrust and provocations.
With international monitors expected to oversee compliance and humanitarian agencies gearing up for relief operations, the coming days will be crucial in determining whether this ceasefire can pave the way for a renewed peace process in the region.
