Born on 20 October 1957 in Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu; former Governor of Maharashtra, Jharkhand, and also had the extra responsibility of Telangana & Puducherry.

Victory Margin: Achieved victory with 452 votes against 300 and a turnout of over 98% of MPs in the election.

Office of the Indian Vice President:

Constitutional Clauses:

Article 63: Establishes the Vice President's office as the second-highest constitutional authority.

Article 64: The Rajya Sabha's Chairperson by virtue of position; does not occupy any profit-making office.

Article 65: Serves as President during the death, resignation, removal, or incapacity of the President, until a new election occurs (within 6 months).

Criteria for being Vice President of India:

Citizenship: Should be an Indian citizen.

Age: Must have reached the age of 35 years.

Eligibility: Must be eligible to be elected as a member of the Rajya Sabha (Council of States).

Office of Profit: Cannot occupy any office of profit under the Union, State, or local authority (except for Vice President, Governor, or Union/State Minister).

Characteristics of the Vice President’s Office:

Term: 5 years and persists until the next person takes office.

Vacancy & Removal: Can resign to the President; can be removed by a Rajya Sabha resolution concurred by Lok Sabha (requires 14-day notice).

Acting President: Takes on all authority, benefits, and remuneration of President in case of absence or vacancy.

Chairperson Duties: Leads Rajya Sabha discussions, maintains decorum, but only votes in the event of a tie.
