The test validated India's ability to detect and intercept advanced ballistic missile threats up to 5000 kilometers, showcasing sophisticated indigenous technology. This achievement underscores India's robust defense capabilities and growing self-reliance on advanced military technology.

DRDO successfully conducted a Phase-II Ballistic Missile Defense System flight test
Defending the Nation with Indigenous Technology: In a stride towards bolstering national security, India's Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted a flight test of its Phase-II Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) System on July 24, 2024. This test marks a pivotal achievement in India's defense capabilities, showcasing the nation's readiness to counter advanced ballistic missile threats.
The target missile was quickly detected by sophisticated weapon system radars deployed on land and sea. This prompt detection activated the Advanced Defense (AD) Interceptor system. At 4:24 PM, the Phase-II AD Endo-atmospheric missile was launched from Launch Complex III (LC-III) at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur.

The flight test met all its trial objectives, validating the complete network-centric warfare weapon system. This system integrates long-range sensors, a low-latency communication network, advanced command and control (MCC) technologies, and state-of-the-art interceptor missiles.
This successful test demonstrated India's ability to defend against ballistic missiles with a range of up to 5000 kilometres. The missile's performance was meticulously monitored using data from various tracking instruments, including Electro-Optical Systems, Radar, and Telemetry Stations deployed at multiple locations, including on-board ships.
The Phase-II AD Endo-atmospheric missile, an indigenously developed two-stage solid-propelled ground-launched missile system, is designed to neutralize enemy ballistic missile threats within the endo to low exo-atmospheric altitude bracket. The missile incorporates cutting-edge technologies developed by various DRDO laboratories.
Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh lauded DRDO for this significant achievement, demonstrating India's robust ballistic missile defense capabilities. Dr Samir V Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO congratulated the entire DRDO team for their relentless efforts and dedication leading to this successful flight test.
This successful test strengthens India's defense systems and underscores the nation's growing self-reliance on advanced military technology. With this achievement, India continues to solidify its position as a formidable force in global defense.
