Prime accused Sanjoy Roy, arrested for the gruesome crime, faces polygraph test as protests continue over hospital safety.

West Bengal Police brought the accused of R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital rape-murder case, Sanjoy Roy to the CBI Office at CGO Complex in Kolkata on August 21.
The prime accused in the shocking rape and murder case of a postgraduate doctor from R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital, Sanjoy Roy, has been remanded in judicial custody until September 6.
The order was issued on August 23, by a Kolkata court, following Roy's arrest by Kolkata Police on August 10, just a day after the heinous crime.

Sanjoy Roy, who served as a civic police volunteer, is accused of committing the brutal crime on August 9, which has since sparked widespread outrage and fear within the medical community.
The crime has raised serious concerns about the safety and security of hospital premises, particularly for women doctors working night shifts.
As the investigation progresses, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been granted permission by the Kolkata court to conduct a polygraph test on Roy.
This approval, granted on August 22, is seen as a critical step in gathering further evidence in the case.
The CBI took custody of Roy on August 21, and transported him to their office at the CGO Complex in Kolkata for further questioning and investigation.
The incident has deeply shaken the R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital community, leading to widespread protests by resident doctors and students.
The tragic event has highlighted the longstanding issues of inadequate security measures on campus, particularly the lack of separate accommodations for female doctors on night duty.
The death of the young doctor has galvanized the Resident Doctors Association and political groups, including the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), to demand immediate action and justice.
In response to the escalating situation, the Calcutta High Court has intervened on multiple fronts. On August 23, the court directed the CBI to investigate financial irregularities at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital, specifically those involving the former principal, Sandip Kumar Ghosh.
Additionally, the court's decision to deploy Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) at the hospital has been met with cautious approval by the protesting doctors and students.
However, the memory of the violent mob attack on the night of August 15 has left many in the medical community traumatized and fearful for their safety.
West Bengal Health Secretary N.S. Nigam has publicly appealed to the protesting doctors to resume their duties, emphasizing the severe impact that the work stoppage is having on the state's healthcare services.
Despite this plea, the protests continue, with many doctors and students expressing their frustration over the lack of meaningful security reforms.
