Modi unveils major Delhi infrastructure projects worth ₹33,500 crore

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for multiple development projects worth around ₹33,500 crore in Delhi, marking a major infrastructure push for the national capital.

The projects include significant expansions of the Delhi Metro network along with redevelopment works under the government housing programme. The initiative aims to enhance connectivity, improve urban mobility and modernise residential infrastructure for government employees.

As part of the programme, the Prime Minister inaugurated two new corridors of the Delhi Metro. These include the Majlis Park–Maujpur Babarpur corridor of the Pink Line, which spans about 12.3 kilometres, and the Deepali Chowk–Majlis Park corridor of the Magenta Line covering around 9.9 kilometres. These metro projects alone are valued at approximately ₹18,300 crore.

The new corridors are expected to improve connectivity in several parts of the city and provide better travel options for daily commuters. They are also designed to reduce travel time, ease congestion on roads and strengthen the capital’s public transport network.

In addition to the inaugurated corridors, the Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for three new metro corridors under Phase V-A of the Delhi Metro expansion. These corridors will cover a route length of more than 16 kilometres and include routes such as R.K. Ashram Marg–Indraprastha, Aerocity–Indira Gandhi Airport Terminal-1, and Tughlakabad–Kalindi Kunj.

Alongside the metro expansion, projects worth about ₹15,200 crore were launched under the General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) Redevelopment Plan.

The redevelopment covers government housing colonies in areas including Sarojini Nagar, Netaji Nagar, Kasturba Nagar and Sriniwaspuri, aiming to provide improved residential and office infrastructure for government employees.

Before the main programme, the Prime Minister visited the GPRA Type-5 quarters in Sarojini Nagar and handed over keys to female allottees of the newly developed housing units.

The projects are part of the Centre’s broader effort to upgrade infrastructure in Delhi, improve urban transport systems and enhance living conditions in government housing complexes across the capital.
