The Ministry of Education today on Friday launched the Study In India (SII) portal, which will cater the international students who are seeking higher education opportunities in India. This program is launched by a joint effort of Union Minister for Education, Dharmendra Pradhan, and Union Minister for External Affairs Dr S Jaishankar, inaugurating the dedicated website to provide comprehensive information about higher education institutions (HEIs) across the country.
The portal showcases a wide range of academic programs that are offered by these HEIs, covering undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral courses, and courses related to the Indian Knowledge System (IKS), such as Yoga, Ayurveda, classical arts, and more. This portal will serve as a resource hub that will offer detailed insights into the academic facilities, research support, and other relevant information available at these institutes.

A distinctive feature of the SII portal is its user-friendly interface that will enable students to apply to multiple institutes or courses of their choice. The platform streamlines the entire process, providing a one-stop solution for student registration, visa application, course selection, and even the issuance of offer letters from the respective institutes.
This Study in India program is set to collaborate with educational institutions that meet some specific criteria. The institutions that are partnering with this portal must hold a National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranking of less than or equal to 100, a National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) accreditation score of 3.01 or above, or should be recognized as Institutes of National Importance (INI).
Under the aegis of the Ministry of Education (MoE), the primary objective of the program is to attract a higher number of international students to India and position the country as a preferred destination for affordable and quality education, adhering to global standards.
During the launch event, the Education Minister emphasized that the SII portal aims to simplify the academic journey of international students in India, in line with the National Education Policy (NEP). This portal reflects the commitment of the government to expand India’s reputation as an eminent educational hub breaking academic boundaries.
The Union Minister for External Affairs highlighted the importance of the portal as an initiative to the government’s determination to make India as a global education hub, open to students from diverse backgrounds.
The event was launched in the presence of various ministers and ambassadors from more than 10 countries. Also, the students from Russia, Thailand, Japan, Ethiopia, Ecuador, Kazakhstan, and the Republic of Korea, who are currently studying in India were part of the occasion, which symbolizes the growing appeal of Indian Higher Education among the international students.
