The concept of ‘one nation, one poll’ refers to holding Lok Sabha and all state assembly polls simultaneously across the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been quite an advocate for the ‘One Nation, One Election’ idea for a long time now.

On Thursday, former president Ram Nath Kovind-led committee submitted its 18000-page report on 'one nation, one election' to President Droupadi Murmu.
The Union Law Ministry had appointed the committee in September 2023 to make recommendations for holding simultaneous elections to the Lok Sabha, State Assemblies, municipalities and panchayats.
In India, the general elections to elect the members of Parliament and state assembly polls are held separately.
Members of the high-level committee included Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Minister of State (I/C) for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Ghulam Nabi Azad, former Finance Commission chairperson N K Singh, former Lok Sabha Secretary-General Subhash C Kashyap, senior advocate Harish Salve, and former Chief Vigilance Commissioner Sanjay Kothari.
Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha, was included in the committee too, but he declined to be a part of it, saying it was an “eyewash”.
