Three minor sisters died by suicide after jumping from the ninth floor of their residential building in Ghaziabad in the early hours of February 4 in an incident the police suspect is linked to a dispute at home over excessive online gaming.

The sisters, aged 12, 14 and 16, were found critically injured near the building after residents reported hearing a loud noise around 2 am. They were rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared them dead.

According to the Ghaziabad police, the siblings had a disagreement with their parents over their growing dependence on an online task-based game. Officers said the girls’ gaming activity had reportedly increased over the past few years, accompanied by frequent absenteeism from school.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Atul Kumar Singh of Shalimar Garden said the police received information about the incident around 2.15 am and immediately rushed a team to the spot to initiate an investigation.

“They were taken by ambulance to the 50-bed hospital in Loni, where doctors declared all three girls dead. Further legal proceedings are underway,” Singh said.

A senior police officer said investigators are examining the sisters’ mobile phones and speaking to family members to reconstruct the sequence of events. No suicide note has been recovered so far.

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, and the police said the investigation is ongoing.
