‘With Modi ji, nothing is impossible’: BSF jawan’s wife hails PM Modi after husband’s safe return from Pakistan

In a dramatic culmination to a tense international standoff, BSF constable Purnam Kumar Shaw — who inadvertently crossed into Pakistani territory last month — was handed over to Indian authorities at the Attari-Wagah border on May 13.

The return of the jawan from the 182nd battalion brought immense relief to his family, with his wife Rajini Shaw publicly thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and expressing deep gratitude for the swift resolution.

“Modi ji hain toh sab kuch possible hai (With Modi Ji, everything is possible),” Rajini said emotionally in a statement to ANI. “After the Pahalgam terror attack, he avenged every widow through Operation Sindoor — and just a few days later, he brought back my husband too. I fold my hands and offer heartfelt thanks.”

Shaw was detained by Pakistan Rangers on April 23 after he mistakenly crossed the International Border in Punjab’s Ferozepur sector while accompanying farmers. He was in uniform and armed with his service rifle at the time of the incident, which occurred shortly after the Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 dead — escalating tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.

His repatriation was facilitated after persistent negotiations between the Border Security Force and Pakistan Rangers, including flag meetings and communication via official channels. The BSF confirmed that Shaw was received at 10:30 a.m. at the Attari border.

“With the consistent efforts of BSF through regular flag meetings with Pakistan Rangers and through other communication channels, repatriation of BSF Constable has become possible,” read the official BSF statement.

In the days leading up to his return, Rajini received reassurances from both officials and political leaders. She also spoke with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who had been in contact with BSF authorities regarding the situation.

Speaking after a video call with her husband, Rajini shared, “I am very happy today. He told me not to worry, that he was safe and physically fine. I had everyone's support — the whole nation stood by me.”

Shaw’s return, delayed due to heightened military tensions following the Pahalgam tragedy, comes at a time when both India and Pakistan are navigating a fragile ceasefire. For Rajini, however, it is a moment of personal triumph, deeply intertwined with national pride and faith in leadership.
