19-kg commercial cylinder rates hit new highs amid mixed fuel price moves; domestic LPG prices remain steady.

On the very first day of 2026, commercial LPG users felt the pinch as the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder surged by ₹111 — marking the sharpest increase in six months. Effective immediately, this hike pushes commercial LPG prices to their highest level since June last year, while domestic LPG rates hold firm.
In Delhi, the retail price for a 19-kg commercial cylinder climbed sharply from ₹1,580.50 to ₹1,691.50. Mumbai followed suit, with prices rising to ₹1,642.50 from ₹1,531.50, and Kolkata’s rates jumped from ₹1,684 to ₹1,795. Chennai recorded the steepest spike, where prices surged from ₹1,739.50 to ₹1,849.50.

In stark contrast, the domestic 14.2-kg LPG cylinder price remained unchanged at ₹853 in Delhi, after a ₹50 hike in April 2025. Prices are stable across other metros as well — ₹852.50 in Mumbai, ₹879 in Kolkata, and ₹868.50 in Chennai.
Alongside the commercial cylinder increase, the price of the 5-kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinder was also raised by ₹27 from today.
Jet fuel prices plunge by over 7%
In a significant boost to the aviation sector, aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices were slashed by ₹7,353.75 per kilolitre — a 7.3% drop — bringing the Delhi price down to ₹92,323.02 per kilolitre. This reduction follows three consecutive months of hikes and effectively reverses more than two-thirds of the increase since October 2025.
Mumbai’s ATF price fell to ₹86,352.19 per kilolitre, while Chennai and Kolkata saw cuts to ₹95,770 and ₹95,378.02 respectively. The move is expected to ease operating costs for airlines, for which fuel accounts for nearly 40% of expenses.
Petrol and diesel prices hold steady
Despite fluctuating global oil prices and domestic fuel adjustments, petrol and diesel prices remain frozen since a ₹2-per-litre cut in March last year. In Delhi, petrol sells at ₹94.72 per litre and diesel at ₹87.62.
Across other major cities, diesel prices hover at ₹92.15 in Mumbai, ₹92.43 in Chennai, and ₹90.76 in Kolkata. Petrol prices stand at ₹104.21 in Mumbai, ₹100.85 in Chennai, and ₹103.94 in Kolkata.
Fuel prices are reviewed monthly by Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum, factoring in international benchmarks and currency exchange rates. The recent LPG price hike reflects increased winter heating demand globally, even as oil prices have softened over the past month.
