Indian Railways has launched the nation’s first removable solar panel system set up between railway tracks

What does it entail?
A solar system measuring 70 meters in length with 28 detachable panels producing 15 KWp of energy.

Situated between railway lines, optimizing space utilization.
Inaugurated in: August 2025 at Banaras Locomotive Works, Varanasi by the Ministry of Railways.
Aim:
Advocate for eco-friendly and sustainable rail transportation.
Produce renewable energy by utilizing unused track areas.
Minimize reliance on fossil fuels and lower carbon emissions.
Attributes:
Detachable design → panels can be removed for upkeep or urgent situations.
Space-efficient setup → eliminates the necessity for extensive land purchases.
15 KWp capacity → meets the auxiliary power requirements at railway facilities.
Pilot initiative → template for duplication throughout India.
Importance:
Ecological Effect: Lowers greenhouse gas emissions.
Economic Efficiency: Reduces operational expenses through the use of renewable energy.
Creative Utilization of Space: Employs vacant railway track zones for energy production.
