Drone intrusion in Poonch sector highlights rising aerial security threats and growing importance of counter-drone defence systems

The Indian Army successfully intercepted and neutralised a Pakistani drone that crossed the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir. The drone was detected during routine surveillance operations, and troops responded promptly to prevent any potential security breach.
According to defence sources, the drone was attempting to enter Indian territory, raising concerns about possible surveillance, smuggling of arms, or intelligence gathering activities. The Army’s swift response ensured that the threat was neutralised before it could cause harm or compromise national security.

The incident reflects the increasing use of drones in modern asymmetric warfare, particularly along sensitive border regions. Drones are often used for reconnaissance, smuggling weapons, or supporting infiltration attempts, posing new challenges for traditional border security mechanisms.
The interception highlights the importance of advanced surveillance systems, radar technologies, and counter-drone capabilities in safeguarding India’s borders. Strengthening technological preparedness and intelligence coordination remains crucial to addressing emerging threats and ensuring national security in sensitive regions such as Jammu and Kashmir.
