Mega crack down on organised crime nets hundreds of arrests

Law enforcement agencies across India have intensified operations under Operation Gang Bust 2026, a nationwide initiative targeting organised criminal networks. The coordinated crackdown has led to the arrest of 854 suspects, including approximately 280 identified gangsters, along with the seizure of illegal arms and ammunition.
The operation spans multiple states, reflecting a synchronised approach among central and state police forces to tackle organised crime comprehensively. Authorities have focused on dismantling gangs involved in extortion, smuggling, drug trafficking, and violent offences, aiming to restore law and order and reduce criminal influence in urban and semi-urban areas.

Operation Gang Bust 2026 highlights the importance of intelligence-driven policing. Investigative teams relied on tip-offs, surveillance, and inter-state coordination to identify and apprehend key operatives of criminal networks. Large-scale raids were conducted simultaneously in different locations to prevent suspects from evading arrest.
The seizure of illegal weapons and ammunition during the operation is significant in curbing the availability of arms for criminal activities. Authorities have emphasised the need for continuous monitoring of gang activities and stricter enforcement of arms regulations to prevent recurrence.
Police officials also stressed the operation’s role in restoring public confidence in law enforcement, particularly in areas historically affected by gang violence. The initiative demonstrates the combined capacity of central and state agencies to tackle organised crime effectively, leveraging intelligence, rapid response, and legal action.
As Operation Gang Bust 2026 continues, authorities have warned criminal elements against attempts to regroup, reaffirming their commitment to a crime-free and secure environment. The ongoing crackdown reflects a proactive, coordinated, and sustained strategy to dismantle organised gangs and enhance public safety across the country.
