Administration readies for millions at Sangam

Prayagraj is gearing up for the Mauni Amavasya bathing during the ongoing Magh Mela, one of the largest religious gatherings in the world. Authorities are expecting approximately 35 million devotees at the Triveni Sangam, where the Ganga, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati rivers meet, to participate in the ritual bath, which is believed to cleanse sins and grant spiritual merit.
The district administration and state government have mobilised extensive arrangements for crowd management, sanitation, medical facilities, and traffic regulation. Temporary shelters, drinking water stations, and first-aid points have been set up across the mela area to ensure smooth and safe participation. The administration has also deployed security personnel and volunteers to manage the massive influx of devotees and maintain order.

The Magh Mela, which occurs annually, is considered a major cultural and religious event, attracting pilgrims from across India and abroad. The Mauni Amavasya bathing is particularly significant, as it is believed that bathing on this day enhances spiritual purification. Special attention is being given to sanitation and river cleanliness, with continuous efforts to maintain hygiene amidst the large gathering.
In addition to religious observances, the event is a major logistical exercise, showcasing administrative coordination and disaster management capabilities. Measures include traffic diversions, emergency response teams, and monitoring of river water levels to prevent accidents and ensure public safety.
The Prayagraj administration’s preparations reflect a balance between religious tradition and modern safety protocols, ensuring that millions of devotees can participate in the Magh Mela with faith, devotion, and security.
