Delhi expands digital infrastructure with new ICT labs in 100 schools

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Feb 10 launched 100 advanced ICT laboratories in government schools, marking a major expansion of digital infrastructure in the capital’s public education system.

The facilities were inaugurated at Sarvodaya Vidyalaya, Mansarovar Garden, under the Digital Equalizer Program implemented by the American India Foundation in partnership with the Ladli Foundation Trust.

Each of the 100 schools has been equipped with 20 computers and an interactive flat panel display. Trained staff will manage the labs to ensure effective integration into classroom learning.

During the event, Gupta also opened a new building block at Sarvodaya Vidyalaya and inaugurated the District Institute of Education and Training building in Dilshad Garden.

The DIET facility comprises 36 rooms and multiple laboratories designed to strengthen teacher training and professional development.

Gupta said the government aims to elevate public schools to match or exceed private institutions through public-private partnerships.

She referred to collaborations such as the one with the Ladli Foundation, which includes the establishment of 101 computer labs and deployment of more than 2,000 computers.

Education Minister Ashish Sood said the priority remains strengthening academic infrastructure rather than publicity. He noted that tenders have been issued for 7,000 smart blackboards to be installed across 21,000 classrooms.

He added that the new infrastructure will help improve the student-teacher ratio from 55:1 to 40:1 and expand teacher training initiatives supported through corporate social responsibility programs.

The inauguration was attended by Director of Education Vedita Reddy, AIF CEO Nishant Pandey, and Ladli Foundation Founder Devendra Kumar Gupta, along with senior officials, principals, teachers, and students.

The rollout is intended to modernize classrooms, expand access to technology, and enhance learning outcomes in Delhi government schools.
