MAHE launches Q-HUB Bengaluru to strengthen India’s indigenous quantum hardware ecosystem

Manipal Academy of Higher Education is setting up a new quantum technology facility in Bengaluru as part of efforts to advance India’s domestic quantum hardware capabilities under the National Quantum Mission.

The initiative, called Quantum-Hub@MAHE (Q-HUB@MAHE), will be based at the Manipal Institute of Technology and is planned as an integrated platform connecting hardware research, startup incubation, skill development, testing facilities, and applied quantum research.

In its first stage, the hub will deploy a 25-qubit dilution refrigeration system that will support hands-on experimentation and specialized training in quantum hardware.

This installation marks the beginning of a broader expansion plan that aims to scale the system to industrial-grade quantum machines with 150 to more than 1,000 qubits.

The facility will follow an open architecture framework rather than relying on proprietary vendor-locked systems.

This approach is expected to encourage the development of indigenous quantum components and allow flexible hardware integration by researchers and startups.

To build the platform, MAHE has partnered with several national and international organizations, including QuantrolOx, Bluefors, QBLOX, ConScience, and the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC).

The university expects the initiative to train 100 quantum engineers by December 2026. It is also intended to operate as a national gateway for testing and measurement in quantum hardware research.

According to the institution, the physical infrastructure of the hub is scheduled to be inaugurated in September 2026.
