Chehre director Rumy Jafry shares how Big B’s professionalism shone as he shot in extreme cold and covered his own travel and hotel costs.

Amitabh Bachchan is known for his unmatched discipline and dedication. In a recent interview, director Rumy Jafry revealed remarkable stories from the shoot of Chehre that showcase the veteran actor’s professionalism.
Rumy recalled how Bachchan paid for his own chartered flight and hotel during the Poland shoot and refused to take any fee for the film. “No one is more disciplined and committed than Amitabh Bachchan,” said Rumy, praising the actor’s respect for directors and writers.

The director also shared a warm memory of visiting Amitabh’s home, where he enjoyed a traditional desi breakfast of dal moth, samosa, and kachori. Despite their nervousness about discussing payment, Amitabh surprised them by saying he wouldn’t charge anything for the film. Producer Anand Pandit insisted for months that he take the fee, but Bachchan refused, wanting to ease the film’s burden.
Rumy also recalled a warning from late actor Rishi Kapoor, who cautioned him against shooting in Poland’s harsh winter. “He told me, ‘You don’t know how cold it gets in Poland in December. Even Hitler lost the battle there,’” said Rumy.
At nearly 79 years old, Amitabh shot in temperatures as low as -70 degrees Celsius, often wearing the same clothes from previous scenes without extra layers. Despite the extreme cold, he remained fully committed. Remarkably, Bachchan personally paid for his chartered flights and hotel stays using his own credit card, refusing to burden the producers.
This extraordinary dedication highlights why Amitabh Bachchan remains one of the most respected and disciplined actors in the industry.
