Punjabi actor and singer Diljit Dosanjh has sparked controversy after releasing the trailer of Sardaar Ji 3, which features Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in a lead role.
The film’s trailer, unveiled on June 22, sparked outrage among Indian audiences, in the wake of the April Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. As a result, the movie is set for release overseas only, with no Indian theatrical debut planned.

Industry bodies have reacted strongly. The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has urged the government to revoke Diljit’s passport and citizenship, calling the casting an “anti‑national act” that “insults the soul of our nation.” They have also demanded a formal blackout of his future work in India.
Alongside FWICE, the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has called for a complete boycott of the actor, urging all producers, distributors, and event organizers to sever ties with him.
Amid the furore, Diljit shared a cryptic Instagram message: "Censored before release?" The message appeared to reference his previous film, Punjab ’95, which was reportedly delayed after the Central Board of Film Certification demanded 120–127 cuts.
In the post, a journalist praised Diljit and the director for resisting edits, adding layers of debate on creative freedom and censorship.
Despite mounting criticism, Diljit continues to promote Sardaar Ji 3 internationally, with its June 27 overseas release date confirmed. The film’s production house, White Hill Studios, has yet to respond to FWICE’s demands.
