Ram Charan’s wife and Apollo Hospitals scion on breaking stereotypes, claiming her share, and forging her own path in a patriarchal world.

Upasana Kamineni Konidela, wife of superstar Ram Charan and daughter-in-law of Telugu cinema icon Chiranjeevi, is far more than just a celebrity spouse. As Vice Chairperson of Corporate Social Responsibility at Apollo Hospitals — founded by her grandfather, Dr Prathap C Reddy — she stands poised to inherit a business empire valued at ₹77,000 crore. But her journey, she insists, has been defined by grit, not entitlement.
In a recent appearance on Curly Tales, host Kamiya Jani described her as “a powerful force in her own right,” underscoring her role in driving one of India’s largest healthcare enterprises. Born into the affluent Kamineni family, Upasana followed the trail blazed by her mother, Shobana Kamineni, in expanding the family’s business footprint.

Today, she also serves as Managing Director of Family Health Plan Insurance TPA (FHPL) and is the founder of UR.Life, a holistic wellness platform. Her contributions have earned her the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for Philanthropist of the Year and a place in Forbes Tycoons of Tomorrow.
Yet, Upasana rejects the assumption that lineage guarantees limitless access to wealth. In a candid conversation with entrepreneur Masoom Minawala, she admitted,
“People think I come from a rich family, but I don’t have access to the kind of wealth that would require me to do the things I want. I needed to understand how my business could run better and grow my wealth to align with my vision.”
She also revealed confronting patriarchy within her own family — and seeing it dismantled.
“The girls were very strong and asked for their own share. I’m proud that our family now treats men and women equally,” she said, adding that in business, preparation remains her shield. “I never go to a meeting without prepping… that gives me the confidence so no one can break me.”
From steering a multibillion-dollar healthcare legacy to challenging gender norms, Upasana Konidela’s story is not just about inheritance — it’s about ownership, on her own terms.
