Poor visibility in Amroha triggers multi-vehicle crash on NH-9, traffic crippled for hours.

A thick blanket of fog caused a major multi-vehicle pile-up on the Delhi–Lucknow National Highway (NH-9) in Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha district on January 18, leaving at least 10 people injured and bringing traffic to a standstill for several hours.
The accident occurred near Shahwajpur Dor village when near-zero visibility made it impossible for drivers to spot vehicles ahead. Dozens of cars and other vehicles rammed into each other in quick succession, triggering chaos on one of the region’s busiest highway corridors.

Police said the injured were immediately rushed to nearby hospitals, where they are reported to be in stable condition. The collision led to long traffic snarls on both sides of the highway as damaged vehicles blocked the carriageway.
Following information about the crash, police teams rushed to the spot and deployed cranes to clear the wreckage. Traffic movement was restored only after the affected stretch was cleared of damaged vehicles.
Authorities have urged commuters to exercise extreme caution while travelling, warning that dense fog is likely to persist across the region.
The accident comes amid an intense cold wave gripping North India, with temperatures dipping below normal in several areas, including Delhi. Thick fog has enveloped major cities during early morning hours, reducing visibility to zero or near-zero levels and significantly impacting road safety.
