K Annamalai, the chief of the BJP in Tamil Nadu and a candidate from the Coimbatore constituency, has been charged in two cases under sections 143, 286, 341, and 290 of the IPC for an alleged breach of the election code of conduct. The police have confirmed that these cases have been lodged at the Sulur and Singanallur police stations.
In the previous week, an additional case was filed against Annamalai and several of his party members. This occurred after DMK workers and their Left party allies protested against BJP members campaigning beyond the time limit set by the Election Commission, leading to a dispute between the two parties in the Avarampalayam area.

In response to a complaint filed by a DMK member, the Peelamedu police registered cases against four BJP functionaries under various sections of the IPC.
