BJP leader accuses Ghosh of “malicious lies” as TMC spokesperson vows to counter with evidence in court.

Actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty has moved the Calcutta High Court with a ₹100-crore defamation suit against Trinamool Congress spokesperson Kunal Ghosh, accusing him of spreading “baseless and malicious” allegations targeting him and his family.
Chakraborty’s petition claims Ghosh falsely linked him to a chit fund scam and even spread rumours of his son’s involvement in a rape case—charges the actor termed as politically motivated slander. “These statements have damaged my honour, social standing, and even impacted my career in films and endorsements,” Mithun, a former Rajya Sabha MP and Padma Bhushan awardee, argued in his plea. He has deposited ₹50,000 as court fees, with the matter expected to be listed for hearing next week.

But Ghosh hit back, announcing he too will file a defamation case against the veteran actor-turned-politician. “He has brought this upon himself. I was waiting for this opportunity to place all chit fund documents before the court and demand a CBI probe,” Ghosh said, branding Mithun a “political turncoat” who has switched allegiances from the Naxal movement to Shiv Sena, TMC, and now BJP.
The stage is thus set for a bitter courtroom clash between one of Bengal’s most celebrated film icons and one of the ruling party’s most aggressive voices—each threatening to drag the other through a legal and political battle that could reverberate far beyond the courtrooms of Kolkata.
