First Indian to win in Monaco, Maini claims emotional F2 sprint victory amid global applause and national pride.

In a moment that will be etched into the annals of Indian motorsport history, Kush Maini stood atop the podium in Monte Carlo as the Indian national anthem played triumphantly through the streets of Monaco — an iconic, almost cinematic scene that marked his victory in the Formula 2 Sprint Race on May 24.
Maini, driving for DAMS Lucas Oil, delivered a masterclass in control and composure to become the first Indian ever to win a Formula 2 race at the prestigious Monaco circuit—a battleground revered for its unforgiving layout and legendary status in global motorsport.

Starting from pole, the 24-year-old was relentlessly shadowed by fellow Alpine Academy driver Gabriele Minì of PREMA Racing. The pressure was intense, and a mid-race safety car threatened to shake things up. But Maini held his nerve like a seasoned veteran, keeping the lead from lights to flag.
“P1, first Indian to win in Monaco too. It’s a great honour and a dream come true. I want to say thank you to DAMS and everyone who has supported me. We keep believing,” Maini said, his voice steady but soaked in emotion.
For Indian motorsport fans across the globe, the sight of Maini standing on the top step, bathed in Monte Carlo sunshine as “Jana Gana Mana” played, was more than a victory—it was vindication. A moment of national pride. A signal that Indian talent can shine on the world’s most glamorous racing stage.
This win marks Maini’s second career F2 triumph and elevates him to 13th in the 2025 Drivers’ Championship standings with 11 points. DAMS Lucas Oil now sits sixth in the teams' standings with 54 points.
Monaco may have crowned many greats over the decades, but on this day, it belonged to Kush Maini — and to India.
