The expansion of visa-free travel for Indians has made it easier for travelers to visit Thailand, a popular destination known for its beautiful beaches and vibrant culture.
In the past, obtaining a Thai visa required paperwork, fees, and often a waiting period. However, between Jan and mid-Oct of 2024, the number of Indian tourists rose to around 16.17 million, thanks to the removal of visa requirements.
The visa-free travel policy has also led to an increase in unplanned weekend reservations.
In Nov 2023, the Thai government implemented its first visa-free entry program for Indians, which lasted for a year.
Due to the unexpected surge in tourism earnings from Indian tourists, the government decided to allow Indians to enter the country without a visa permanently.
Not only Thailand, but Malaysia has also implemented a visa-free entry policy for Indians, propelling the country to become the fourth most-searched vacation destination for Indians in just six months.
Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Vietnam have experienced a significant increase in tourism this year, with a total of 70 million registered visitors, many of whom are Indians.
Due to the rapid surge in tourism, Thailand's Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has proposed a Schengen-type visa for all six Southeast Asian countries.
This initiative aims to provide a seamless travel experience across borders, making it easier for tourists to travel and giving a boost to the region's tourism industry.
