The update allows users to adjust variables, view real-time graph changes, and explore more than 70 key concepts through interactive modules aimed at improving understanding of complex equations.

ChatGPT is introducing a new interactive learning feature aimed at helping users better understand mathematics and science through dynamic visual explanations.
The update allows learners to explore concepts by adjusting variables and observing how equations and graphs change in real time, making topics that are often taught through formulas easier to grasp.

According to the announcement, the platform is used by about 140 million people each week to learn or review math and science topics, whether for homework, exam preparation, or exploring new areas in STEM.
With the new capability, ChatGPT can present interactive visual modules when users ask about certain mathematical or scientific concepts. Instead of receiving only text explanations, users can interact with visual elements that demonstrate how formulas behave when different values are applied.
The system is also designed to solve math problems more accurately, provide step-by-step explanations for complex equations, and break down scientific concepts into clearer components. It can help students and professionals verify calculations or explore unfamiliar topics in quantitative fields.
For example, users may ask how concepts such as the Pythagorean theorem, the ideal gas law, or the area of a circle work. ChatGPT can then generate an explanation along with an interactive visual where the numbers and formulas respond immediately to user inputs.
The aim of the feature is to allow learners to experiment with equations rather than simply memorize them.
The interactive visual tools are expected to become available globally across both free and paid versions of ChatGPT. Officials said the feature may not yet appear in some Indian accounts but should roll out within the next one or two days.
Research in education has shown that visual and interactive methods can improve conceptual understanding. Observing how variables influence results in real time can help learners grasp underlying principles more effectively than traditional explanations alone.
Teachers who tested the feature also pointed to its potential benefits in the classroom. High school mathematics teacher Anjini Grover said the tool encourages conceptual learning by helping students see why formulas work and how different ideas are connected.
At launch, the feature covers more than 70 key topics in math and science. These include concepts such as exponential decay, kinetic energy, Coulomb’s law, slope formulas, compound interest, and trigonometric identities.
While the topics are particularly relevant for high school and college students, the company said anyone can explore them using simple prompts.
The interactive modules build on earlier learning tools introduced by the platform, including Study Mode, which guides users through problem-solving steps, and integrated quizzes designed to support exam preparation.
The company said it plans to expand the interactive learning system to more subjects as it continues to study how artificial intelligence can support education.
