Exploring the Interplay Between Artificial Intelligence and Human Creativity: Unraveling New Frontiers in Innovation and Expression

Mpox (Monkeypox) virus
Amid recent outbreaks, researchers have uncovered a groundbreaking adaptation mechanism of the Mpox virus, shedding light on its enhanced ability to infect humans. Renamed from "monkeypox" to "mpox" to mitigate stigma towards monkeys and reflect direct human infectivity, this virus has garnered significant attention due to its zoonotic potential and global impact.
Mpox, classified as a DNA virus within the Poxviridae family, was initially identified in monkeys in 1958 but has since been found to infect humans as well. Transmission primarily occurs through contact with infected animals or contaminated objects, leading to symptoms such as fever, headache, and characteristic skin lesions.

Recent outbreaks, including a widespread event affecting over 100,000 individuals across 118 countries, have underscored the urgency of addressing Mpox. The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the outbreak a public health emergency, prompting coordinated efforts for containment and control.
Genomic analysis has revealed distinct clades and lineages within the Mpox virus, with evidence suggesting variations in mortality rates. The emergence of clade IIb, associated with heightened human-to-human transmission, has raised concerns about the virus's evolving adaptability.
Researchers have identified genomic features, such as gene duplication and deletion, driving Mpox's evolutionary adaptations. A recent study published in Nature Communications uncovered specific genomic sections influencing human-to-human transmission, serving as the virus's genomic accordion.
Understanding Mpox's evolutionary dynamics is crucial for developing effective prevention and control strategies. Further research into its adaptation mechanisms and genomic features will be essential for mitigating future outbreaks and safeguarding public health on a global scale.
