The partnership aims to strengthen academia–defence collaboration through joint research, advanced materials innovation, faculty exchange, and defence-focused skill development.

KIET Deemed to be University, Ghaziabad, achieved a major milestone in its pursuit of excellence in research and innovation with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Defence Materials and Stores Research & Development Establishment (DMSRDE), DRDO, Kanpur.
The MoU is envisioned to establish a robust framework for long-term academic and research collaboration in the areas of advanced defence materials, nanotechnology, joint research initiatives, faculty–scientist exchange, student training, and technology-driven innovation, thereby strengthening the synergy between academia and national defence research.

The MoU signing ceremony was graced by Dr. Kingsuk Mukhopadhyay, Outstanding Scientist and Director, DMSRDE, DRDO, Kanpur, as the Chief Guest, and Shri Amit Saraiya, Scientist-F and Head, Technology Cell & JIRI, DMSRDE, as the Guest of Honour. The event witnessed the presence of Dr. Manoj Goel (Executive Director – KIET), Dr. Adesh Pandey (Director Academics – KIET), Deans of various schools, and members of the Dean (R&D) team of the University.
Welcoming the distinguished guests, Dr. Abhishek Sharma, Associate Dean (R&D), emphasized the significance of the collaboration in nurturing research-oriented culture, defence-ready skill development, and outcome-driven innovation, aligned with national priorities.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. A. K. Pandey, Director Academics, KIET Deemed to be University, elaborated on the long-term academic and research vision of KIET, highlighting the institution’s focus on centres of excellence, interdisciplinary research, industry and defence partnerships, and translational research outcomes. He emphasized that collaborations with premier defence research organizations such as DRDO are central to KIET’s roadmap for becoming a nationally and globally impactful research-driven university.
Chief Guest Dr. Kingsuk Mukhopadhyay underscored the pivotal role of higher educational institutions in advancing indigenous defence technologies and fostering future researchers capable of addressing complex national challenges. He highlighted DMSRDE’s contributions in the domains of carbon-based nanomaterials, nano-biomaterials, functional nanostructures, and high-performance defence materials, reinforcing the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
Shri Amit Saraiya shared insights on integrated research frameworks and emphasized the importance of structured academia–defence collaboration for accelerating technology development and effective knowledge transfer.
The conceptualization, coordination, and successful realization of this MoU were driven by the strategic leadership & guidance of Dr. Vibhav Kumar Sachan, Dean (R&D).
The MoU was formally exchanged by representatives of both institutions, symbolizing a shared commitment towards research excellence, innovation leadership, and national service. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Ruchita Gautam, Professor and Program Head (ECE) & Associate Dean (R&D), acknowledging the contributions of the dignitaries, organizers, and supporting teams.
This strategic collaboration is expected to open new avenues for joint research projects, expert interactions, student internships, technology development, and capacity building, further strengthening KIET Deemed to be University’s role as an emerging hub of advanced research and innovation.
