Registrations begin Feb 27 for eligible ninth-grade students across India, with merit-based selection criteria and a fully funded residential training program scheduled from May 11 to 22 at ISRO centers.

The Indian Space Research Organization has opened applications for YUVIKA 2026, a national outreach initiative aimed at introducing school students to space science and technology.
YUVIKA, short for Young Scientist Program or YUva VIgyani KAryakram, is designed to provide foundational exposure to space technology, space science, and their practical applications.

The program seeks to motivate students early in their academic journey and encourage them to consider careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
The online registration window will open on Feb 27, 2026, and close on March 31, 2026. Students who are in grade 9 as of Jan 1, 2026, and enrolled in any recognized school across the country are eligible to apply.
According to the schedule released by ISRO, the program was formally announced on Feb 20, 2026. The first selection list will be published on April 13, 2026, followed by a second confirmed list on April 20, 2026. The YUVIKA program will run from May 11 to May 22, 2026.
Selection will be based on a multi-factor evaluation process. Class 8 marks, or the most recent examination results, will account for 50% of the total weightage. Performance in an online quiz will contribute 10%.
Participation in science exhibitions and other co-curricular activities over the past three years will carry between 2% and 10% weightage, depending on the level of involvement.
Students will also receive additional marks for achievements in Olympiads and sports competitions, as well as for participation in Scouts and Guides, NCC, or NSS.
Those studying in rural schools located in Panchayat areas will receive an extra 15% weightage. ISRO has also said that there will be minimum representation from every state and union territory.
The two-week residential program will be conducted at nine ISRO centers, including the Vikram Sarabhai Space Center, Satish Dhawan Space Center, and UR Rao Satellite Center.
ISRO will cover the full cost of study materials, lodging, and meals for selected students. Travel expenses will be reimbursed up to the cost of a second AC train ticket or an equivalent bus fare upon submission of original tickets.
Through YUVIKA 2026, the space agency aims to build early interest in space research and create a pipeline of future professionals in STEM disciplines.
