Maoists attacked two policemen with knives in a market area in Chhattisghar’s Sukma district on Nov 3 morning leaving them injured, police said.
The attackers looted their weapons and fled away. One of the critically injured policeman is battling for life at a hospital in the Dantewada district, according to a police official.

The incident occurred around 8 am in a weekly market area in Jagargunda. The two policemen were part of a group of around 20 men deployed in the market.
“The two were walking some distance away from the others when a small action team (of Maoists) attacked them. When they fell down, the Maoists looted their weapons and fled from the spot. There were about four Maoists, and they were on foot,” a police official was quoted as saying.
“Both were attacked with knives. One of them is out of danger and another, who suffered an injury on his neck, is in a serious condition. He has been moved to a hospital in Dantewada and will be further moved to Raipur for better treatment,” the official added.
Searches have been launched in the area to track down the attackers, according to the official.
Notaby, in a similar incident, a Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) jawan was murdered by Maoists in a market in the neighboring Bijapur district in February this year. Also, a constable was murdered at a fun fair in Sukma district in June.
In stepped-up operations against Maoists, 191 of them have been killed in encounters so far this year. During the same period, Maoists have killed 17 police personnel and over 50 civilians, according to officials.
