Ex-Tamil Nadu BJP chief succeeds Jagdeep Dhankhar, vows to steer “Viksit Bharat by 2047”

C P Radhakrishnan, senior BJP leader and former Tamil Nadu party president, was sworn in as the 15th Vice President of India on September 12 at a solemn ceremony in Rashtrapati Bhavan. President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath at 10 am, marking a new chapter in the nation’s constitutional leadership.
The 67-year-old leader secured victory in the vice presidential election held on September 9, defeating Opposition nominee B Sudershan Reddy by a margin of 152 votes. His elevation comes after the sudden resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar on July 21 due to health issues. Dhankhar, making his first public appearance since stepping down, was among the dignitaries in attendance.

The ceremony drew the country’s top leadership, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP president J P Nadda, and former vice presidents Hamid Ansari and M Venkaiah Naidu.
In his first remarks after the election, Radhakrishnan described his victory as “a triumph of nationalistic ideology” and urged a collective push toward building a developed India by 2047. “This is not just my win — it is a victory for every Indian. If we are to realize the dream of Viksit Bharat, we must rise above politics and focus on development,” he declared.
