IMPHAL: On the anniversary of a year marked by violence reportedly targeted at Meiteis, demonstrators assembled on the streets to set ablaze effigies of 10 Kuki MLAs at Pangei Yangdong on May 3.
The effigies were set on fire during a protest rally coordinated by PYAL, Thougei Pangei Yangdong, PYYDA, and WWA Pangei.

Participants from various regions also joined the demonstration.
As part of the protest, the assembly honored Haobijam Somenkumar and Okram Sanaton from the local area, along with other martyrs who sacrificed their lives for Manipur, by observing a two-minute silence.
The demonstrators voiced their discontent over the government's failure to apply the law equally in the hill and valley districts of the State.
One of the demonstrators claimed that the Kuki MLAs were a significant factor in instigating conflict in the state, leading to their effigies being set ablaze.
In light of the young individuals who have taken up arms to protect Meitei villages from armed militants, they appealed to the Government to cease the violence and reestablish peace in Manipur as soon as possible.
