In a significant move towards enhancing India's indigenous defense capabilities, the Indian Army has issued a tender to procure five to six regiments of the 'Anant Shastra' surface-to-air missile system.
Developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), this system is designed to bolster air defense along India's western and northern borders with Pakistan and China.

The ₹30,000 crore project has been entrusted to Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a public sector undertaking known for its expertise in defence electronics.
The Anant Shastra missile system, previously known as the Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile (QRSAM), is expected to significantly enhance the Army's air defence capabilities.
The system boasts a range of approximately 30 km and is capable of operating in both day and night conditions. Its mobility and agility make it suitable for deployment in varied terrains, providing a robust shield against aerial threats.
This initiative aligns with the Indian Army's vision to increase indigenisation and reduce dependency on foreign defence technologies.
The successful deployment of the Anant Shastra system is anticipated to strengthen India's strategic posture and contribute to regional stability.
