PM Modi, Amit Shah among 40 senior leaders to campaign for BJP in J&K

“J&K is witnessing a new era of peace and development under the Modi government. The region has transformed from a terrorist hotspot into a tourist hotspot, with increased educational and economic activities,” Union Home Minister Amit Shah posted on X, ahead of his two-day J&K visit to kick start the electoral campaign on Sep 6.

“Leaving for Jammu on my two-day visit, where I will launch the BJP’s Sankalp Patra and interact with our karyakartas on Sep 6 in the Karyakarta Sammelan,” Shah added.

Shah will kick off the party’s poll campaign on September 6 in Jammu with the release of the BJP’s manifesto, Sankalp Patra.
The list of star campaigners includes the party's prominent faces, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh.

Union Ministers including J P Nadda, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Nitin Gadkari, Manohar Lal Khattar, and G Kishan Reddy will also campaign for party candidates in the upcoming polls.

In the second phase of polling held on Sep 25, Union MoS Jitendra Singh, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh, Member Parliament Anurag Thakur, and Himachal Pradesh Leader of Oppostion (LoP) Jai Ram Thakur will campaign for the party candidates. The list of star campaigners also includes former Amethi Member of Parliament Smriti Irani.

On the first day of his two-day visit, Shah will meet with a core group of the state BJP unit to review the party's poll preparations and ground-level activities, media reports said. On the second day, he will hold discussions with party members to ensure success in the polls.

Shah's visit comes at a critical time for BJP in J&K as the party faces growing challenges with several members and workers protesting and some of them leaving the party after being denied tickets.

At least 219 candidates will contest the first phase of the elections with voting scheduled on Sep 18. This is the first assembly election in J&K after a decade.
