Over the past few months, around 1.8 lakh Indian accounts have been banned by X (formerly Twitter) which were allegedly involved in suspicious activity.
The social media platform has taken down 1,84,241 accounts from March 26 to April 25 2024. Reportedly, the accounts were banned because of policy violations that included promotional child sexual exploitation, terrorism-related content or non-consensual nudity.

Indian users have lodged 18,562 complaints during this period, which focuses on sensitive content, hateful conduct, harassment, and adult content.
X has attributed these actions to its implementation of various measures aimed at tackling instances of child sexual exploitation and terrorism.
Under the new IT Rules 2021, X released monthly reports on account bans and user complaints to strictly enforced the policies that highlight the commitment to foster a safe online environment.
X has intensified its crackdown on policy violations and the users must prioritize compliance and responsibility while using such social media platforms.
