A mass shooting at Bangkok’s Or Tor Kor food market left at least eight people dead and several others injured after a gunman opened fire in the busy market area.

A mass shooting at Or Tor Kor Market in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district claimed six lives, including the gunman on July 28.
Police confirmed that five people were killed before the shooter turned the gun on himself: four security guards employed at the market and one female vendor.

The suspect, identified via ID and driving licence as Noi Praidaen, a 61‑year‑old man from Nakhon Ratchasima, was found dead on a bench inside the market, dressed in a black t‑shirt, camouflage shorts, and carrying a backpack.
The shooting occurred around 12:38 pm local time in the fresh‑food section near a donation point set up to assist those affected by the ongoing Thailand‑Cambodia border conflict.
Two other women were injured and taken to Phyathai Phaholyothin Hospital, but their exact conditions remain unreported.
Authorities say the motive appears personal, citing a prior dispute in 2019 involving the suspect and a fellow security guard over a vendor he had been romantically linked to. The police emphasise that no political or ideological motive has been confirmed, despite the proximity to the border‑aid collection point.
In the aftermath, the Bang Sue Police Station sealed off the area while investigators collected CCTV footage, interviewed witnesses, and worked to establish whether the shooting is connected in any way to the broader border clashes with Cambodia. No tourists were among the victims, according to Bangkok police.
Thailand has witnessed several high‑profile shootings in recent years, including a 2023 mall shooting by a minor and a mass attack in 2022 carried out by a former police officer.
