On evening of July 28, a gunman opened fire inside the skyscraper at 345 Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan — home to major firms like Blackstone, KPMG, Deutsche Bank and the NFL headquarters.
The shooter, 27‑year‑old Shane Devon Tamura of Las Vegas, was wearing a bullet‑resistant vest and armed with an M4/AR‑style rifle. He began his attack around 6:30 pm, exiting a BMW and immediately firing in the lobby.

He first fatally shot NYPD officer Didarul Islam, an off‑duty security detail officer, then wounded others in the lobby and on upper floors. Four civilians were killed along with Officer Islam. The gunman later died of a self‑inflicted gunshot wound on the 33rd floor.
A fifth person remains in critical condition, while several others sustained minor injuries trying to escape.
Local law enforcement locked down the area quickly, and the FBI joined the ongoing investigation. Police and City officials say the scene is contained, and there is no ongoing threat.
Officials confirm Tamura had a documented history of mental illness, though the motive for targeting this location has not yet been determined.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams and Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch praised Officer Islam as a hero whose actions saved others.
