Israel Defense Forces conducted an unannounced drill, code-named “Dawn,” to evaluate command center responsiveness and operational readiness for large-scale attacks amid ongoing multi-front operations.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) initiated a surprise military exercise named "Dawn" on Aug 10, designed to assess the preparedness of its general headquarters and command centres in facing large-scale attacks across varied theatres of war.
Under the direction of Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Eyal Zamir, the operation involved multiple, unexpected scenarios across different operational contexts to test rapid coordination and decision-making.

The purpose was to ensure the IDF’s ability to respond swiftly and effectively to emergent threats.
Oversight and evaluation of the exercise were carried out by IDF Comptroller Brig. Gen. (res.) Ofer Sarig and his team, who measured both the quality and speed of the IDF's reactions to the surprise simulations.
A formal military statement emphasized that Israel will continue and expand such audit-style inspections across all branches and units to bolster competence and readiness.
The timing of the drill coincides with ongoing operations on multiple fronts. On the eve of the exercise, the IDF conducted a strike on a Hezbollah operative in southern Lebanon’s Aynata region, accusing him of collecting intelligence in violation of the existing ceasefire.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also met with security officials prior to the exercise, during which the IDF chief outlined strategic options for advancing the Gaza campaign, signalling that preparations for further operations were underway.
