Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu thanked Prime Minister Modi for his visit, calling it a boost to bilateral relations and expressing confidence that Indian tourist arrivals will rise significantly in the coming months.

Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu extended heartfelt thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his state visit to the Maldives, calling it a productive milestone expected to boost tourism and strengthen bilateral cooperation.
The two-day state visit, from July 25 to 26, coincided with the Maldives' 60th Independence Day celebrations. As Modi attended as the guest of honour, the island nation witnessed cultural fanfare, including children chanting “Vande Mataram” and widespread public enthusiasm.

During a joint press conference, President Muizzu noted that India is “one of the major countries” supporting Maldives’ tourism sector. He expressed confidence that the visit would significantly enhance people-to-people ties and tourist inflows from India.
Muizzu called Prime Minister Modi a “wonderful person,” appreciating his leadership in reshaping India–Maldives ties through cooperation, respect, and renewed engagement.
The visit included signing four MoUs and three key agreements across vital sectors, and the launch of Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations between the two nations.
Additionally, India pledged a $565 million line of credit to Maldives for infrastructure and development projects, reinforcing its role as a strategic partner in the region.
Modi and Muizzu jointly inaugurated several development initiatives, including new defense infrastructure, commemorated with the issuance of a stamp marking 60 years of diplomatic ties. Modi emphasized India’s commitment to regional peace, development, and its policies of “Neighbourhood First” and Vision MAHASAGAR.
The visit marks a significant reset in diplomatic relations following 2023 tensions. Muizzu’s earlier pro‑China stance and the "India Out" rhetoric shifted back toward India after a state visit to India in 2024.
The renewed warmth was solidified by Modi’s presence at the Independence Day celebrations and the robust agenda of agreements and commitments.
