Two Indians lost their lives in Russia-Ukraine conflict

Two Indian citizens, Hemil Ashvinbhai Mangukiya from Gujarat and Mohammad Asfan from Telangana, lost their lives while serving in the Russian army on the Russia-Ukraine border.

They were among several men from India who were deceived by promises of employment in Russia, only to find themselves forced into military service.

These men were initially lured with job offers as cooks or housekeepers in Russia.

However, upon arrival, they were sent to a military training center in Moscow, where they underwent weapons training before being deployed to fight against Ukrainian forces.

They were forced to sign a contract in a language they did not understand.

The families of these men, frustrated by what they perceive as a lack of support from the Indian government, have expressed their desperation and helplessness.

Some have even considered traveling to Russian-occupied areas of Ukraine to bring their loved ones back.

In response to these incidents, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has urged Indian citizens to be vigilant and refrain from accepting risky jobs in Russian military units.

The MEA has also initiated strong action against agents and unscrupulous elements who recruited the Indians on false pretexts and promises.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has busted a major human trafficking network, conducting searches in several cities and collecting incriminating evidence.

A case of human trafficking has been registered against several agents.

The Indian government is in touch with the Russian authorities to secure the release of other Indian nationals who may be in similar situations.

The government is also making efforts to trace the Indians and is continuing talks with the Russian government for their early discharge.

In March, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) reported that about 35 Indian men were deceived in this way.

New Delhi and Moscow have maintained a strong relationship for many years. India has chosen not to criticize Russia for the conflict with Ukraine, instead encouraging both parties to resolve the issue through dialogue and diplomacy.

This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of fraudulent job offers and the risks faced by migrant workers abroad.

It underscores the need for greater vigilance and stronger action against human trafficking.
