Sunak admitted his party’s defeat in an acceptance speech after retaining his Richmond and Northallerton seat.

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak faced a significant defeat and conceded the general election to Labour Party leader Keir Starmer on July 5.
He acknowledged the difficult night for the Conservative Party, describing the outcome as a "sobering verdict" from the voters.

Sunak made his concession speech after securing his Richmond and Northallerton seat.
"I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the people of the Richmond and Northallerton constituency for your unwavering support during these challenging times. The Labour Party has emerged victorious in this general election, and I have personally called Sir Keir Starmer to congratulate him," Sunak stated, visibly emotional following the results.
"Power will transition peacefully and orderly, reflecting the stability and future of our country. Tonight, the British people have delivered a clear message, and there is much for us to reflect on. I take full responsibility for this loss," he added.
Meanwhile, Keir Starmer's Labour Party is poised for a decisive victory in the general election.
Preparing to assume the role of Prime Minister, Starmer proclaimed that the United Kingdom is ready for change.
"The transformation starts now because this is your democracy, your community, and your future. You have spoken through your votes, and it is now our duty to deliver," said the 61-year-old after retaining his north London seat.
