India’s First Micron Semiconductor ATMP Plant Inaugurated

India achieved a major milestone in its semiconductor journey with the inauguration of its first semiconductor Assembly, Testing, Marking, and Packaging (ATMP) facility by Micron Technology in Gujarat. The facility represents a significant step toward strengthening India’s domestic semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem and reducing dependence on imports.

The plant involves a total investment of approximately ₹22,500 crore and will focus on the assembly and testing of memory chips, including DRAM and NAND products. These chips are essential components used in smartphones, computers, data centres, and various electronic devices. The establishment of this advanced semiconductor facility enhances India’s capability in the global semiconductor value chain.

The project is expected to generate around 5,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities, contributing to economic growth and skill development in the high-technology sector. It will also promote the development of supporting industries, including electronics manufacturing, supply chain logistics, and semiconductor services.

The ATMP facility is part of the broader semiconductor development strategy supported by the Government of India under the India Semiconductor Mission. The initiative aims to attract global semiconductor companies, promote domestic manufacturing, and build a strong semiconductor ecosystem in the country.

This development is significant for strengthening India’s technological sovereignty and supporting the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. It enhances India’s position in the global electronics and semiconductor market and improves supply chain resilience.

Overall, the inauguration of the Micron ATMP plant marks a crucial step in advancing India’s semiconductor capabilities, boosting economic growth, and promoting self-reliance in critical technologies.
