As part of the arrangement, an X Band Polarimetric Doppler Weather Radar will be set up at Dimapur Government College under the central government’s Mission Mausam initiative. The radar installation is expected to enhance real-time weather monitoring and data collection in the region.

Officials said the collaboration will encourage academic interaction, joint research efforts, and capacity building in meteorological and atmospheric sciences. The initiative is also aimed at strengthening institutional linkages between IMD and the state’s higher education network.

The partnership is expected to deepen scientific understanding of weather patterns and hazards specific to Nagaland, leading to more reliable and timely operational forecasts.

The MoU will be in effect for a period of 20 years.
