Government assures crude oil supply stable, prioritises LPG distribution for households

The central government has assured that India’s crude oil supplies remain secure despite disruptions in global energy markets triggered by the ongoing conflict in West Asia. Officials said there is no need for panic buying, adding that the distribution of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is being prioritised for domestic households.

Authorities said measures have been taken to maintain steady fuel availability and ensure that cooking gas reaches residential consumers without major disruption.

Officials emphasised that the country’s energy supply chain continues to function normally despite geopolitical tensions affecting global fuel logistics.

To manage supply concerns, LPG distribution has been prioritised for households, hospitals and educational institutions. Commercial users such as restaurants and other businesses may face temporary restrictions as the government focuses on ensuring that domestic consumers receive uninterrupted cooking gas supply.

Officials also urged consumers not to engage in panic booking of LPG cylinders. According to government data, the normal delivery cycle for domestic LPG refills remains around two and a half days, indicating that supply chains are continuing to operate efficiently.

India’s diversified crude import strategy is expected to help cushion the impact of global disruptions. The country imports crude oil from around 40 different countries, reducing its dependence on any single region and allowing refiners to adjust procurement when geopolitical tensions affect certain supply routes.

The government has also asked oil refineries to boost LPG production in order to strengthen domestic availability of the fuel. Additional output from refineries is being directed toward household consumption to prevent shortages.

Supply concerns have emerged in recent days as the conflict in West Asia disrupted energy shipments and created uncertainty in global fuel markets. Industry groups and businesses in some cities have reported difficulties in accessing commercial LPG cylinders, prompting authorities to prioritise domestic consumption.

Officials said the government is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with oil marketing companies to maintain adequate stock levels across the country.
