The program combines analytics, strategy, and industry exposure; offers flexible entry through an in-house qualifier or JEE Advanced eligibility; and provides equal academic recognition as other IIT Madras undergraduate degrees.

IIT Madras has introduced a new undergraduate program that blends management education with data science, aiming to prepare students for decision-making in data-intensive business environments.
The Bachelor of Science in Management and Data Science will be offered by the Department of Management Studies and will begin its first academic session in June 2026. Applications are open until May 31, 2026.

The interdisciplinary program is structured to develop capabilities in quantitative analysis, business strategy, and data-driven problem-solving.
Students who complete the course will receive a Bachelor of Science degree from IIT Madras, with the same academic standing as other degrees awarded by the institute.
Admissions, delivery, placements, and career services will be managed through IIT Madras’ Centre for Outreach and Digital Education.
The institute is also working with industry partners to facilitate internships and project-based learning, with a focus on improving employment readiness.
The program was formally launched on campus on Feb 21, 2026, by IIT Madras Director Prof V Kamakoti.
The event was attended by Chief Guest Gangapriya Chakraverti, India Site Head and Managing Director, Ford Motor Company; Guest of Honor Rajiv C Lochan, Managing Director and CEO, Sundaram Finance Limited; and senior faculty members, including Prof Saji Mathew, Head of DoMS; Prof Andrew Thangaraj, Chair of CODE; Prof Prathap Haridoss, Dean of Academic Courses; and program coordinators Prof G Arun Kumar and Prof Vipin B.
Addressing the gathering, Prof V Kamakoti said, “The BS in Management and Data Science reflects IIT Madras’ vision of preparing learners for leadership in a data-driven world. By integrating management education with strong analytical foundations, this program enables students to make informed, responsible, and impactful decisions across industries while ensuring flexibility and access at scale.”
The institute said the program is aligned with its broader goal of expanding access to high-quality, future-ready education. It seeks to address rising demand for professionals who can operate at the intersection of technology, analytics, and management.
Prof Saji Mathew, Head, DoMS, IIT Madras, said, “This unique BS program in Management and Data Science aims to meet the growing industry requirements of management professionals with strong analytics skills.”
“This program leverages the technology, management, and entrepreneurship ecosystem at IIT Madras. This inclusive program without barriers to age and distance is an initiative for high-quality, data-driven management education,” Mathew added.
Graduates are expected to find opportunities across manufacturing, construction, banking, financial services, information technology, e-commerce, consulting, healthcare, and public policy. The program also lays a foundation for higher education, research, and entrepreneurship.
The degree is open to candidates who have completed Class 12 or an equivalent qualification, including diploma holders.
There is no age limit and no restriction on the number of seats. Students may pursue it as a standalone degree, alongside another academic program, or while employed.
Admissions will be granted either through an in-house qualifier conducted by the institute or to candidates eligible to appear for JEE Advanced.
