Investigators are examining claims that the exam paper was circulated in advance through messaging platforms, with digital evidence recovered from a student’s phone and a potential paid source under scrutiny.

Authorities in Nagpur have launched an investigation into a suspected leak of the Maharashtra board Class 12 Chemistry examination paper after it was allegedly circulated on social media before the test began, officials said on Feb 21.
The suspected malpractice surfaced at a higher secondary examination center on Feb 18 when invigilators grew suspicious of a female student who made repeated trips to the restroom during the exam. Upon checking, officials confiscated her smartphone.

According to police, a review of the device revealed that the Chemistry question paper had been shared in a WhatsApp group prior to the commencement of the examination. Messages in the same group also allegedly contained possible answers.
Following the student’s statement, another student has been taken in for questioning as part of the inquiry.
Preliminary findings indicate that an individual associated with a private coaching institute may have circulated the question paper in exchange for money, officials said.
A case has been registered at Sadar police station, and further investigation is underway.
